What books are you reading now? Are they books that you chose? Are they books that were suggested to you by someone else? First of all, I congratulate you for choosing to read when you don’t have to read.
“A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read” – Mark Twain
By choosing to read, you are scratching the surface of your potential. However, choosing what to read, now that’s where things get interesting. First you must ask yourself what your long term goals are and work backwards from there in order to find the book that will make the most impact in your life at this moment.
Let’s say you are currently a 35 year old male or female working a 9-5 job making 40k-50k a year. Say you wanted in the next 2-3 years to create an income for yourself outside of your job of about $3000, a reasonable goal. Now work backwards from there to where you are. In what industry do you see yourself having both the highest chance of success and enjoyment?
Perhaps you are already a software developer and have skills in programming that you could leverage through further study to create an app or website that provides value to others. Maybe you are just a cashier at a grocery store with no skill in business or wealth building but want to invest in Real Estate to create long term financial freedom.
Whatever your circumstance is, there is a book out there that will help grow a current skill or create a new skill from scratch. Find that one book that relates most to what it is you decide to pursue, read it, implement it, and I guarantee your life will change for the better.
“There are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we do not know we don’t know.” – Donald Rumsfield
Along with learning things you want to learn about, you will learn about things you didn’t know that you don’t know. Our minds are only capable of imagining things based on what we’ve seen, but what happens when you see something you’ve never seen before? Your mind expands, and the limit of possibilities that you thought were static begins to move.
Let’s continue to learn together and discover the books that will make the largest positive impact to your life at this moment.
“In this world you’re either growing or you’re dying so get in motion and grow.” ― Lou Holtz
