Good afternoon my friend, I have a juicy secret to share with you!
Tonight will be very interesting for me because I am giving Speech #1 of my Advanced Manual (Storytelling) in Toastmasters. I am not very prepared, but I am very passionate about the topic. This will be an exercise for my on-the-spot speaking skills which is always a really entertaining experience.
It is my plan to discuss ULL vs CUL (uncontrolled limited leverage vs controlled unlimited leverage). These are Fastlane terms introduced by M.J. DeMarco.
Of course I am a little nervous because I am writing my speech on the day of presentation however I have created some bullet points that will ensure delivery of the greater message. My plan for tonight’s speech is to briefly talk about my quest for knowledge – how I first discovered books and where I am now as a result of reading many great books.
I will incorporate my audience by saying “I have read many popular self development books and would like to see how many of our members and guests have read some of these titles”. I will raise my hand to every book title below, and see how many people can continue to raise their hand as I mention each title one by one (keeping my pace and pausing appropriately, not rushing through my words).
- How to Win Friends and Influence People
- 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
- Think and Grow Rich
- Rich Dad Poor Dad
- The Automatic Millionaire
- The Millionaire Next Door
- The Richest Man in Babylon
And then I will make an observation, and introduce The Millionaire Fastlane which is the book I finally discovered after reading 40 other books (I am not exaggerating, here is the list.) Perhaps the biggest impact on my perception is that I discovered this book merely 7 days ago. I read it in 4 days and now it is my absolute mission to study this book and bring its lessons into reality.
I feel like a million bucks because I have found this astounding book and decided to read and study it at a young age. I am very grateful, please join me in soaking in and applying this knowledge!
I am also writing in my journal everyday which has been a great outlet for me to record my thoughts and archive my journey and process of thinking through life. I have more than 4 months of thoughts and actions recorded in my journal (which I have decided to make yearly binders and I have tabs for the months) so I am long overdue for a journal review which I will schedule for tonight.
When the opportunity to speak became so, I immediately signed up so I wouldn’t let my fellow Toastmasters down and also because it was going to make my day more interesting and becoming a better speaker is one of my goals.
The chance will come but it doesn’t matter if you are ready are not. You need to leap!
The main message of this post is to not be hesitant when opportunity arises! Prepare yourself everyday so that when it comes, you can jump.
Embrace the thrill of new opportunities and develop a habit of escaping your comfort zone. Life’s most obvious secret is that when we seek something and commit 100% to finding that something, then we are taken along a momentous journey beyond our original boundaries. This is where the real growth is found!
I believe I may never be fully prepared so I choose to harness my skills on a daily basis to be ready to leap at the chance when it comes.
It is my hope that you will take action from this message, life is an adventure so any chance you have to do something you want to accomplish, take that leap!
Reading is fun but taking urgent steps to achieve your goals is where the real fun is.
Remember, process makes something great. Process leads to events. Events do not create themselves!
